Brands Hatch ... a track to enjoy racing

Short excerpt about the circuit published by the sponsor of the event

Imagen

Brands Hatch is a simple track - featuring no chicanes - but that doesn't mean it's straight forward, especially the downhill turn one which you can see at the top of this photo. You can see the full 'Indy' configuration of the track here, with the Formula One loop extending to the top right before two right handers bring the track back into picture and into the final turn

Imagen

The first British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch was held in 1964 where it was also designated as the European Grand Prix. From the left, Jim Clark, Graham Hill and Dan Gurney lead the way while an incredible amount of people on the circuit and close by look on casually. Clark would win ahead of Hill, while John Surtees made it an all British podium by finishing third

Imagen
Now that's a prize for gaining pole position! No wonder there is a wide grin on Jack Brabham's face after claiming pole for the 1966 British Grand Prix. Not only did the front row starts boost his chance of victory towards winning the race and then the world championship later on in the year but it also saw the Australian rewarded with 100 bottles of champagne

Imagen
Brabham (5) leads away his team-mate Denny Hulme from the start of the 1966 British Grand Prix along with Dan Gurney. Down in 10th place next to the Daily Mail advertising hoarding you can Bruce McLaren driving the car of his own name. The New Zealand star would finish sixth at Brands Hatch and in doing so claimed McLaren's first ever world championship point

Imagen
As fans casually stroll the midfield to watch the race in a manner unthinkable today, Brabham wasted no time in building up a lead in 1966 before going on to win. The Australian exits Bottom Bend (later renamed after Graham Hill) heading into Bottom Straight, which from 1976 was slightly modified to bring it away from the pit complex and renamed Cooper Straight

Thanks all for racing.

Brand Hatch is only 30 miles from here so my local and one of my favourites, but that did not help me in this race :)

I had used the Honda at Reims and decided to use it again here and take the punishment.
The car is great with a strong motor but I had to be so gentle with the gas pedal or she would spin out.

In the race I could see Stefan and Enrique gradually pulling away but I could not do anything about it other than hope for mistakes from them.
Stefan had a spin and dropped back but soon caught me again and set off after Enrique.

My was was solid but slow so I finished where I started in 3rd.

Well done Enrique and Stefan and all that finished.
Sorry to the DNF.

Thanks for organising and hosting.

See you next race

Dear me... This season isn't working out very well for me, is it? My second DNF in just four races. Groan...

As mentioned in the run-up to this season, I was keen to try rides at venues that would be new to me. For Brands, I had a number of new cars from which to choose and settled on the Lotus 43/BRM-H16. A powerful but very heavy car, I've used it with some success elsewhere. In pre-race trials, I managed a low 36s effort and found it a good ride but a little tricky with the tail being very heavy and subject to breakaway. As well, the power comes on with a rush when you get in the upper rev range and any careless throttle application can punish one with a spin.

In qualifying, I had some mis-adventures and couldn't quite match my pre-race markers. The first laps of the race had me chasing Xuggy hard in the little 4-banger Brabham and while I had a substantial top-end advantage in speed, I couldn't match his cornering power especially in South Bank. I could close somewhat but was in no way able to put up a bid. Lap04 proved to be something of a disaster for both me and Stefan. I slipped off the road at South Bank to lose a bunch of time and Stefan was off from the lead with a lurid spin in Hawthorn. He dropped back to P4 and this set the stage for a remarkable comeback drive. Lap05 and Tago was off in South Bank to promote me one place. Coming up to finish Lap06 and coming off Clearways, the H-16 mill scattered. Sigh... Pulled over and sat back to watch the rest of the race unfold. Stefan clearly had a fire lit within as he charged back through the field with great pace. Ultimately, he was challenging Ricky for the lead and stole it with a nifty pass on Lap18 in Hawthorn when Ricky got his BRM P261 a bit out of shape on corner entry. Ricky hung on grimly sitting only one second back for the last laps til Hawthorn bit Stefan for a second time on Lap23. Off with another spin almost collecting Ricky in the process, Stefan had to settle for P2.

Great drive from Ricky throughout. Stefan putting up a storming drive. Paul a solid P3 in the big Honda. Well done, chaps.

Next round is Zandvoort. I'm slated to drive the Lotus 43 again there but may change my intended ride. I find Zandy a real trial. From Tarzan...T1...all the way to the top of the main straight, it's a constant see-sawing on the steering wheel which fatigues me greatly. Fingers X'd...
Those who do not learn from history will be condemned to relive its mistakes.

Good afternoon: I made a decision, with the 2-litre BRM, as it is a car with very good power despite its small engine and because it is very light compared to the 3-litres.
My mission was to get on the podium ahead of Paul, since after my fatal outcome in Reims, Paul escaped me in the standings and I wanted to finish ahead of him to get a little closer and I managed it...
I think Stefan took the BT 2.7 which is a wonderful car and he showed it with that very strong handling he had, throughout the race, unfortunately he made 2 mistakes that left him in 2nd place, practically you could say, leaving me in 1st place on a silver platter, when he made his first mistake, and I passed him by about 300 metres, he managed to make a super-racing comeback and caught up with me and passed me in a masterful way, it was a resounding victory for this man.
But with half a lap to go before the end of the race he made a second mistake that, thanks to microscopic reactions, saved me from being out of the race, and it was then that he gave me, so to speak, the podium in 1st place and achieved my goal.
Great race Stefan, a wonderful fight and it is for these moments that I love the GPL for these beautiful battles, just like the last 2 races with a beautiful fight with Paul.
See you in the next one, gentlemen, and thank you.

 4 25 tagomago66 BrabBT19 SPA 1m36.266s 01.212s 10
 5 22 Nick Xug BraBT117 CAN 1m36.268s 01.214s 11
Thx all for racing :piloto:

:D :D :D
I enjoyed Reims like a dwarf with the Ferrari :ferrari:
In the race when there was the kiss :besos: David - Enrique I was a little bit behind ... very little ... but I did not know how to manage patience and I made mistakes that made me lose the enjoyment in the lead :boink:
I ended up happy because I always measure the whole event and in training we had great moments and I had a generally good performance :piloto:
Proof of all this is that I took the fastest lap of the race ... as you know, this is not usual :reygreen:
In the championship there are 2 discards ... that makes it easier that it is not bad luck or commitments that decide a championship.
We know that when someone does not come to the track it is because he has a great plan and we always wish that the parties and celebrations in other places go well :brindis:
Kissing on the track :besos: and partying :brindis: should be washed away by those two discards.
Now in Brands something similar has happened to me ... I have enjoyed like a dwarf on track with the braby :brabham: ... although as Enrique told me in the FP4 chat I should have taken one less heavy.
In the previous Sunday's practice Xuggy melted :jo: me with a very good pace ... so that gave me the extra to try to qualify in front of him.
On the board you could see both of us in 1.36.26 ... the gap was 0.002 :blah:

Código: Seleccionar todo

 4 25 tagomago66 BrabBT19 SPA 1m36.266s 01.212s 10
 5 22 Nick Xug BraBT117 CAN 1m36.268s 01.214s 11
I started well and was confident but an excess of desire led me to make a mistake on lap 5 that left me at the end of the group :cabreo: :crygreen:
From then on it was all about catching Doni who was unlucky :ahorcado:
And then great battle with the clock and Xuggy cutting the distance and I managed to get him in sight but never a real shot
What a comeback from behind Stefan ... congratulations :baba: :bien:
As always great times on the track with great friends ...
Thx all for racing :piloto:

Hice algunas fotos:
