Very nice training with Xug, Tago & Paul yesterday, with the latter looking really strong for today. Sorry for the lack of news so far. Learning this track has been a bit of a rollercoaster. I started Tuesday last week and I already managed 2:10 that day & 2:09 the day after (default setup)! However, that speed seemed to disappear from one day to another. I was not that inspired, or just not that smooth behind the pedals & steering wheel, or simply tired, maybe a bit of everything... and so I struggled to put laps together, which made me focus on building the speed and understanding how to achieve so. And there I am. I have also been working on my consistency and trying to modify the setup to be more comfortable in the sections where Paul flies, but I did not make much progress. Anyways, the track is gorgeous and the challenge of mastering is part of the joy, isn't it? :D

Thanks all for racing.

I know this track well but I could not match Gaizka's pace who was in the 2:09s.

In the race, the first couple of laps felt like I was dropping back but on the 3rd lap I put in a low 10 which put me on Gaizka's tail and then able to pass into Roller Coaster.
The rest of the race was defending and trying to re-pass after I lost the lead a couple of times. It was all close racing but I was obviously holding Gaizka up and preventing him from putting in fast laps ( or maybe he was feeling sorry for me ;) )

Unfortunately on the last lap we had some contact heading into Nascar Bend. It looks like warp but still a shame that it happened.
I waited for Gaizka and we completed the lap.

Well done Gaizka and all that finished.

Thanks for organising and hosting.

See you next race.

what a fun race, :amor: at the start I spun at Oak Tree Turn and lost track of Paul :llorar: (I would never have caught them anyway) Doni and Tago passed me and that's when the fight for the bronze medal began, I was able to pass Tago and when I passed Doni we had a little contact and I was left behind them again, hehehe, it's okay dear Doni, it's a matter of brakes and I know you pulled out all the stops to avoid hitting me, but I was able to continue, and the hunt began again. But this time it was them two who approached me at a bar at the end of the roller coaster curve (I imagine to share a drink), and I got three more, but... with about 8 laps left, I spun again on the same curve where I spun the first time, but this time, they couldn't pass me. Afterwards, I had to stay as fast as possible to avoid their attacks, and I was able to cross the finish line and get on the podium.
I really enjoyed this race; it was very fun and very respectful.
Congratulations to Paul and Gaizka for their respective podium finishes.

VIRGINIA INT’L RACEWAY- VIR 1964 Entry Forms

In 1955, a group of North Carolina car enthusiasts began their search for a possible racetrack location. They soon found the perfect site on the state line on land owned by the Foote Family and VIRginia International Raceway opened for business in August of 1957. As one of the first permanent American road racing tracks, VIR soon became a fixture on the SCCA circuit. The track fell on hard times in the early 1970s. The track was closed following an SCCA endurance race on October 13, 1974. VIR reverted to farmland for 25 years until 1998 when investors Connie Nyholm and Harvey Siegel decided to resurrect VIR. Their vision was more expansive than anyone could have imagined. Reopening in 2000, the historic track was renovated to become a world-class road racing circuit while still following the track’s original centerline.

A terrific if anything but error-free run at VIR! A course that I always look forward to and, frankly, considering that I'm forever buggering up 'The Roller Coaster', it should be on my shit-list.

A simply fabulous duel up front between Gaizka and Paul had the fans on the feet for the full duration. Goodness me but what a battle! Full marks to each with Paul emerging the victor. Well done, chaps!

I qualified with a new personal best to start P5. Got away nicely to follow Tago's Lancia closely where in the 'NASCAR' corner, he slipped off the road. Picked up a place and chased Ricky's Ferrari. Lap02 and Ricky spun in the 'Oak Tree' where I narrowly slipped by to pick up P3. WOOHOO! Tago was close behind and was also through to demote Ricky. Over the next laps, I grimly held on as Ricky was bouncing back from that spin to make it a three-car train. Precious little between we three. Paul and Gaizka were long gone. Lap06 and Tago dropped a wheel off onto the grass verge exiting the 'Hog Pen' and lost momentum. Ricky didn't nee a second invitation to pounce and took over P4 on the run down to 'The Horseshoe'. Gaining the 'Back Straight', it was maddening to see how easily Ricky picked up the slipstream and motored by. I was hoping to avoid that by being very careful not to slide the tail exiting the Oak Tree where to do so would kill my launch onto the straight. I yielded the place without drama as we headed into the dreaded 'Roller Coaster' where I stayed low to the right but Ricky got all sideways and pinched down on me with his Ferrari. I was powerless to avoid and a minor collision resulted. Sorry about that, Ricky. I had nowhere to go. What happened next was just about the most amazing save I've ever seen in GPL. I survived the contact to carry on but Ricky's Ferrari went up on its left-side wheels and skated along on the grass verge. Surely, DNF. BUT NO! Incredibly, the Ferrari came back down on all four wheels! WHAT!?!? LOLOLOLOLOL!!! Ricky carried on losing about seven seconds in the exchange and, I'm sure, filled with a determination. Tago had a ringside seat for this and can be forgiven for thinking, 'Well... That's the end of Ricky.' At the end of Lap09, I had a major fright in dropping a wheel onto the grass verge exiting the Hog Pen and the Maser skated wildly off to the right and into pit lane. Made my eyes water up a bit I can tell you. Tago was by in a flash and I found that I was not that far ahead of the hard-charging Ricky. Lap11 and a bit of comedy relief. Both Tago and I fell off in the Roller Coaster. Groan... I got going first to resume in P4 as Ricky was long gone. Ricky had a bit of a moment in the Oak Tree on Lap12 to allow me close within several seconds but I was pretty much resigned to P4 at this point. My main concern was staying ahead of Tago who was charging back hard. Managed to prevail for that P4 placing with a new personal best lap time by a mere one second margin. PHEW!

Even with the stupid off in the Roller Coaster, gotta score this one 4/5. :)
Those who do not learn from history will be condemned to relive its mistakes.

This time I didn't have the speed necessary to bother the pack. I like the circuit, and I don't really know which part I didn't do well. At Q, I was 1 second behind the second-to-last, and I thought maybe I could follow the group and try to catch something, but I quickly fell behind and didn't progress like the Tago-Doni-Enrique trio did, who had so much fun. So blowing my engine with two laps to go didn't hurt me. I hope to give it more of a fight next time. It is worth mentioning that Paul breaks Gaizka's streak of 17 wins!
grats Paul, Gaizka & Enrique! :cava:
