I had a look at the replay from FP2 and I certainly can't match Gaizka's work rate. So I just have to accept that I will not be able to see him after lap two!

My setup has been developed to prioritise engine survival by avoiding over reving. It means that Gaizka does ten more gear changes than I do in one lap. This also cuts down on the number of opportunities that I have to screw things up!

I will just have to hope that I'm not lapped.

Apart from a few lap with Clive I have not had time for 55 this week.

Looking at the lap times I will be racing with tago :)

Great scrap with Paul but I guess that I should have stayed with my low rev approach as when I might finally have got the better of Paul, I lost a valve!

Shame as I was having fun.

Thanks all for racing.

I was having a nice race with Clive. He was faster in some sections, I was faster in others.
When Clive slowed and pulled over I lost concentration and started to have excursions into the undergrowth.
Luckily there is not much to collide with when you go off track here so at least I finished :)

Well done podium.

Thanks to PDLR for organising and hosting.

See you next race.

Goodness me but that was a topsy-turvey, upsy-downsy kinda race! I met my goal of a P4 finish but little did I expect the dramas along the way.

The 'G-man', Gaizka, had this one in his back pocket from the get-go. Pole, leading every lap, easy victory and the FTD. Ricky had an entertaining run with some offs and a collision with me but came home in P2 with a best lap in the race not far off Gaizka and well clear of everyone else. Tago nabbed the final podium place after a solid run. Good show, fellas.

A little disappointed with efforts in qualifying that were well over a second off my pre-race trial pace. I had a reasonable launch off the grid to keep Xuggy behind me and picked up a slot early when Tago slipped off on the exit of the Colonial Loop. Still on Lap01, another gift as Ricky went into Dolphin too deep and skated off. I could just hear Ricky screaming, 'AY, CARUMBA!' :) Over the next few laps, I was surprised to find that I was able to keep up with both Clive and Paul but in all honesty, they were battling so hard with pass and re-pass attempts that they were slowing each other down and allowing me to keep them in sight. This became critical on Lap06 where they both cost each other lots of time and I was right on their tails on the exit of Carlton. Trouble was, all this was allowing Ricky to close back in and he made a stab up the inside at Dolphin. A little optimistic there, imo, with contact that put me off. Ricky, to his credit, checked up to allow me to retake the place. No apparent damage to either of us. I was able to hold of Ricky's Lancia for a lap but soon, he blasted by on Sassoon to take over P4. Major developments on Lap08 as Clive had the engine fail in his Lancia. Bad luck there, Clive. Only moments later, Paul ran very wide out into the heather in the Colonial Loop. In trying to get back onto the runway, he lost traction and arced across the road directly in front of both Ricky and I. Ricky made it through the narrow gap; I didn't. WAMO! A solid midships hit to Paul's Lancia. Rang my bell. It was like the Titanic homing in on that iceberg. I could see it coming but there was nothing I could do to avoid. I managed to recover from this to carry on but GPLRA Mechanical Report notes that I took a lot of damage including the engine. Evidently, Paul's Lancia was unaffected. That duff engine became apparent in short order as both Tago and Paul made easy passes on the straights to follow within a lap. Groan... There were many laps left to run and I tried my best to keep up with the crippled Maser. Coming off Prince George to finish Lap13, I saw some simply enormous tyre tracks leading to the outfield. Uh-oh. Someone has had a wild ride. This turned out to be Paul who arced over in spectacular fashion to get trapped in the outfield by fencing. In scoping the replay, I was both amazed and amused to see that he found a gap in the outer pit wall to regain the track. Paul lost a lot of time here and Xuggy made the most of it by claiming P5.

I set my FTD on Lap02 with the brakes still relatively cool and am surprised to see, trying hard to stay ahead of Xuggy and Paul, that I set a time not far off my qualifying marker on Lap15 even with an engine suffering from constipation.

All in all, a wild & crazy affair.
Those who do not learn from history will be condemned to relive its mistakes.

Congratulations to Gaizka, Enrique and Tago.

I must have been racing with Paul, on and off, for about twenty years and last night we finally got it right.

55mod is not the easiest platform for a long battle but we each gave the other the required racing room and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Looking forward to Watkins Glen, at least Gaizka shouldn't be four seconds up the road! It isn't long enough!

Enhorabuena a Gaizka, Enrique y Tago.

I really like this circuit in the Bahamas (I think I'll have to go see it myself one day).
On the other hand MAESTRO MEZCUA, what extraordinary photos and also what a hard life poor Moss has, always in bad company, like all the little Formula 1 drivers... I'm going to organize a trip to the Bahamas one day to see if I can find company similar to that of Sterling... (I doubt that very much) :llorar:
On the other hand, about the race, well, I arrived home in a hurry after having visited a client, (remember that here in Mexico it's 3 in the afternoon, the time that the server sends).
I didn't have much time to warm up and I qualified, more or less regularly with the little time I had left.
The start, like most of mine, I started slowly but I was able to stay in my position, as it was cold I had forgotten the braking reference in some corners and just as Doni said I shouted (HAY CARUMBA) AND THERE IS . HAY CARAMBA... just change "u" for "a"..hehehehe
but then I started to get into rhythm and lap after lap I went faster and faster, I caught up with Doni again and in an attempt to brake further ahead, he didn't reach me to get inside and I hit him (my fault Doni, an apology)
fortunately without consequences for anyone, I waited for the Ferrari to regain its place and Tago took advantage and got in front of me in a shameless way....... :sierra:
I put nitro in that Lancia and put pressure on Tago's Lancia, which went a bit long in a corner and I took advantage of that "vile theft" of position....... ;)
I caught up with Doni again and took advantage of the power of the Italian car and on the long straight I was able to pass him, I was trying to catch up with the other two Lancias that were leading... (because I didn't see any Mercedes in 1st place, I only saw two Lancias in 1st and 2nd position... someone mentioned a certain Gaiska, but I didn't see anyone with that name in the race... so I won... umffff... I said... :ladrillo:
Anyway, I was slowly cutting Clive and Paul's time, but at some point, I saw Clive stopped in front of the start finish line, and I said to myself, "GOSH" Clive, and then in the 2nd corner, I found Paul in a "kill me" position and as I'm not a killer, I got into the only gap I had to avoid the collision and by a miracle, by a miracle I avoided him... that luck, it wasn't Doni's... :llorar:
Then it was just running and running and without a single mistake, I managed to take the victory... mmmmmm (earth people victory I mean).
I had a lot of fun, it's actually a great pleasure and not sexual, to virtually race against you, you are true gentlemen. :amor:
See you at WG, I hope I don't have to serve any clients...
Hugs

abrazos

Sorry about that Doni.
I lost control of the car :boink:

I am glad you could continue to the finish even though you lost some power.
