My Ferrari registered a 1:48.9. Default setup & low fuel for the time being

I'm counting the FP2 race as a win because I could still see Gaizka at the end of it.

Very nice FP2, Clive. Tomorrow may be even closer!
I did not report back during the week because 1:48.9 is still my PB. All my setup changes had little effect on my laptimes so I am very much in a learning process with the Ferrari

Thanks for the race.

I made my best start in FP1 and every attempt since then has been poor.

This ment that Gaizka was "gone" and Tago was first to Tamburello. I had a better drive out of Tamburello so was lucky enough to be in a solid second place by the time that we reached Tosa. I think that Enrique had the best start and would probably have emerged as second if I had not been in his way!

I concentrated on keeping it tidy for the first few laps, which consolidated my second spot but did nothing about Gaizka out the front. Eventually it was Paul behind me in the Connaught and still within towing range. This added some pressure as he was an "unknown" since he had not taken part in any of the practice sessions. I seemed to be slowly pulling away and could still see Gaizka at times.

I thought that Gaizka had put his foot down at the halfway point but, looking at the race history graph, it was me who eased up. I wasn't aware of doing so but perhaps I subconsiously realised that all I could do was lose second rather than make further gains.

Congratulations to Gaizka and to Paul for his drive in the Connaught.

I'm hoping that my Lancia may give Gaizka a little more to think about at Bathurst.

Hice mi mejor salida en los Libres 1 y desde entonces todos los intentos han sido malos.

Éste decía que Gaizka "se había ido" y Tago llegaba primero a Tamburello. Tuve una mejor conducción al salir de Tamburello, así que tuve la suerte de estar en un sólido segundo lugar cuando llegamos a Tosa. ¡Creo que Enrique tuvo la mejor salida y probablemente habría quedado segundo si yo no hubiera estado en su camino!

Me concentré en mantenerlo ordenado durante las primeras vueltas, lo que consolidó mi segunda posición pero no ayudó en nada a que Gaizka se situara delante. Al final estaba Paul detrás de mí en el Connaught y todavía dentro del alcance de remolque. Esto añadió algo de presión ya que era un "desconocido" ya que no había participado en ninguna de las sesiones de práctica. Parecía que me iba alejando lentamente y por momentos todavía podía ver a Gaizka.

Pensé que Gaizka había pisado fuerte a mitad de carrera pero, mirando el gráfico del historial de carrera, fui yo quien aflojó el ritmo. No era consciente de ello, pero tal vez subconscientemente me di cuenta de que lo único que podía hacer era perder un segundo lugar en lugar de seguir ganando.

Enhorabuena a Gaizka y a Paul por su pilotaje en el Connaught.

Espero que mi Lancia pueda darle a Gaizka un poco más en qué pensar en Bathurst.

Gracias por la organización.

El Connaught era un poco bajo de potencia pero genial en las curvas. Mientras tuve el rebufo de alguien pude mantenerme en contacto, pero sin él retrocedí.
En la carrera gané un par de puestos, así que estoy contento con el resultado.

Enhorabuena a Gaizka y Clive por los podios y a todos los que habéis competido.

Nos vemos en la próxima carrera.

The Connaught was a bit down on power but great in the turns. While I had slipstream from someone I could stay in touch but without it I dropped back.
In the race I made a couple of places so I am happy with the result.

Well done Gaizka and Clive for the podiums and to all that raced.

A convincing victory for Gaizka. Well done. Clive and Paul going well to take P2 & P3, respectively. Good show, chaps.

A conservative run from me as that's the way I prefer to play it. Above all, avoid shunts. Ricky found out to his pain the cost of that as surely it cost him a place late in the going.

Picked up a place from Xuggy when he spun and I only just scraped by without contact. Chased Ricky for many a lap but he was clearly faster. Only some collisions with stout track-side objects put paid to his efforts leaving him with a duff engine.

My all-time personal best in the Vanwall is a 1m52.64s effort back in 2017. In the race, in trying to put a little pressure on Ricky, I logged a 1m52.7s lap so not too displeased with that.

Off to the land of OZ next!

I qualified well but then in the race I lacked the pace to fight with Paul or Clive.
