Whenever a new GPL season is in the making, a fair amount of time is spent in producing its calendar.Gaizka escribió: ↑Mié Ene 11, 2023 11:10 pmRegarding the 55mod calendar, I am truly excited! It has been the result of going through 132 circuits. Our aim? To make you smile under your aviator goggles. The challenge? Not to repeat any of the tracks already scheduled since the 1st 55mod championship was organized here at PDLR back in 2018. In resume, my Windows XP is about to explode
I promise to share with you at a later stage more details on all the factors we took into account for the track selection![]()
Until then, let me tell you that the Papyrus tracks for the second part of the (67/68?) season is a nod to GPL's 25th anniversary, which will give us the opportunity to enjoy the soon-to-be-released GPL 1967 Track Pack
This task, which can be daunting, usually is the outcome of a large analysis... or not. It all depends on the inspiration of those involved

But the key element for a calendar to excel is passion. Only then the small details will make the difference

As promised two years ago, here you have the full list of factors (in no particular order) that we have taken into account when building the 55F1 mod calendars these last years:
- Race on tracks that make you smile under your aviator goggles
- Race on recently released tracks as a gesture towards the track creators (besides they tend to have the best graphics)
- Similarly, race on recently updated tracks (e.g., 1967 Track Pack) / tracks with a 50s graphical addon (e.g., gliebzeit's updates)
- Pioneer by racing on tracks that never held a 55F1 mod race yet
- Race around the world. That is, visit as many countries as possible
- Race on tracks that belong to the era of the mod (e.g., VIR has had the same track layout since 1957). This helps to avoid tracks that do not fit the mod (e.g., stop & go tracks)
- Race on tracks whose layout applies to the era of the mod (e.g., Brno 1949 instead of 1937 or 1965)
- Combine tracks of different nature / style (e.g., different stress levels of brake fading, clockwise vs anti-clockwise, long vs short laptimes, technically demanding vs straight forward)
- Have 1 track that encourages slipstreaming battles
- Have 1 city / street circuit
- Have at least 1 airfield / aerodrome
- Do not repeat any of the tracks already scheduled since our 1st 55F1 mod championship back in 2018
- Avoid fantasy tracks in general (not applicable though when based on real roads).
Luckily for us there are lots of tracks that fit very well the 55F1 mod. That eases the task to find enough candidates. These are weighted against the aforementioned factors, filtering the list and generating an initial draft. The final step is to finetune it. To do so, we aim for the following:
- For the first event, select a track that is somewhat forgiving while interesting / familiar enough for everyone to get acquainted with their new car
- Sort the tracks strategically so that the level of difficulty of the championship increases gradually, reaching a plateau shortly after mid-season
- Allow an extra week for preparing the long / difficult tracks, followed by easier / shorter tracks to protect from mental / physical fatigue
- Place tracks that encourage slipstreaming battles near the end of the season in order to increase everyone's chances of surviving close fights
- Handle really long tracks (e.g., Targa Florio & Isle Of Man) as special events, including a proper break (= number of weeks) dedicated for their preparation
- Test how the calendar flows by running the tracks in sequence. Short offline training sessions will do.
The result should be known to you
