Thanks all for racing.

Typical slipstream race with no way to break free of the pack so the lead changed every lap.

The first half of the race was a duel with Enrique but soon we were joined by Xug, Tago and Dave.
There was an incident at the last turn where we lost Enrique and then a few laps later Xug went off into the hay at T2.

The last couple of laps was just Dave and I.
We crossed the finish line as a dead heat but GPL gave the win to me.

Fun race.

Well done Dave and Xug for the podiums.
Sorry to the DNF

Thanks to PDLR for organising and hosting.

See you next race.

As I posted over at the SRMZ and GPLWeekly...

Not even a full lap in and my hopes dashed. Following Clive down to Thillois, he seemed to brake very early and this caught me off-guard. Only two options to be had. One > drill him in the tail. Two > veer off to the outfield and hope for the best. #2 it was. Glided through the grass in what seemed an eternity til the Eagle finally came to a stop without hitting anything. Thanked my lucky stars for that, at least. Got back onto the roadway but lost about 15 seconds. Groan... My hopes of getting some good slipstream action with the Eagle long gone. Just cruised around for 15 laps not pushing in any way shape or form. Gear change-ups with 1000 R's to spare. Picked up two places with the DNF's of Clive and Ricky.

Great battle up front! Paul aces David by a whisker! Xuggy a splendid run to P3. Tago a good P4. Well done, chaps! :)

Addendum...

WOWZER! Talk about a close finish! Is this the closest for the win in GPL history? Could be. However, there is an even closer finish for the final podium place. See here...

As Paul said above (mostly) a great race. I got off the line well enough to keep with the front pack. Spent the first few laps running 3rd/4th watching the entertainment ahead as Paul and Enrique battled. I was even easing off at times so as not to get involved - it's a long race! Then on one lap Paul and Enrique were slipstreaming on the inside into the last turn and the left hand lane was completely empty! Well it would be rude not to I thought! I went down the outside and braked as normal. Unfortunately I got a bit of a wriggle under braking and ended up just touching Enrique. His car leapt many feet into the air and burst into flames! 100% my fault but the consequences were not justified by the level of the impact. Having been on the other side of GPL's exuberant crashes myself I know how Enrique must feel. VERY sorry Enrique (you may be glad to hear I can't make the next race). I paused briefly but there was no coming back for Enrique, so I continued and was able to keep with the leaders. Xug, Tago, Paul and myself. There were many lead changes all without incident. Tago dropped back and then Xug, leaving just me and Paul. I knew I wouldn't lose Paul so I was trying different strategies to get across the line first. I had a plan but so did Paul. I exited the last turn second but was catching him and catching... As we crossed the line I looked right and was convinced I was slightly ahead. Woohoo! Then GPL put me second but with an identical time to Paul. Post race analysis shows he was about 6 inches ahead 0.004secs. Brilliant race - except for the Enrique incident!

Many thanks to Doni for his magnanimous gesture, I'm just sorry not to have put it to better use.

Two laps later I was winding myself up to unleash the mighty H16 at Xug on the main straight when the enormous weight of same got the better of me at the only left hander.

The stopping performance of the Lotus 43 is not great and I also think that I had received a bit of a tow so I probably went for safety, not wanting to rear end Xug.
