2019 F1 1967 - 09 - Gran Premio d'Italia
YEAH I did it & it was not today that was changed in the history of 1967
Big Grats Xug & Clive
Qual:
Amazingly after so many years with GPL, I'm still sitting & changing the setup in the last few seconds, today it went up a higher level.
Great pole of Xug - here I had to give up - but scary to become the center of a BigMc on the start line
Race:
Change on 1st gear in the last minutes was good, but still surprised I first came to Grande.
Actually a little boring setup because, no matter what I did, the car was in the ideal line I wanted (SCX) & drove the race almost without errors, a little mistake on the last lap in Lesmo, when I tried to put a better time.
Really sorry to see more on replay make mistakes & their race gets too short
Monza, oddly I never get tired of this track. Got the GPL demo with only Watkins & later in 1998 I bought the GPL CD...only to run Monza
Thanks again to all of you here at PDLR ...my Toro Grosso was a 'little' good today

Well done to Pelle and Xavier.
Don't think that ten-pin bowling was a good build up for this event. The setup that I had plucked from the list on Monday night was by Ed Mosses and the title suggested that it should be good for a 1:27.xx but not in my hands.
I made a reasonable start and was alongside Pelle into Curva Grande but decided to not make an issue of it. That was about the last that I saw of Pelle as his pace was very good.
I then made a mess of Lesmo#1, which allowed Xavier through into second spot and that was my race just about done! I could gradually gain on Xavier over a few laps but then I would make an error that put me a second or so further back and would have to start again.
David made a good start and was quick over the opening laps. Fortunately the first of my mistakes came after he had dropped back, so he didn't get too close.
I think that I had about 30 ltr of fuel left at the end.
Don't think that I have a setup for the next one. Ooops no. It's the last two where I shall be lost!
Bien hecho a Pelle y Xavier.

Great job by Pelle to roar away to a fine victory in the Honda. Shades of Big John.
Superb event for Xavier to nail down a comfy P2 after taking pole in the Eagle. Really on the pace there.
Clive a fine P3 also in the Eagle. Well done.
A P5 finish for me seems like a win! Starting 9th, I just hoped to get through the Curva Grande in one piece as it so often happens here, the initial lap is a recipe for disaster. On the run down to CG off the start, it looked like Cayo was going to carve over on me with his big Honda but only at the last instant, he realized that I was alongside and gave me roon. PHEW! Dodged a bullet there. On finishing Lap01, I got a run on Quico's Cooper on the main straight and made a pass attempt stick going into CG to start Lap02. So far, so good... I took up station a short distance behind Trooper's Brabham and worked hard to close but he edged away ever so slighly with each lap til... Disaster for him on Lap06 as he caught the grass verge approaching the Parabolica, lost adhesion, swerved and ran off into the gravel trap. A stout clout of the barrier there took off a wheel. Bad luck. This promoted me to P5 as already on Lap04, David has gone off in Parabolica...now forever to be known as the 'Diabolica'...dropping him back. My next target up the road was Tago but he was slipping away comfortably and any chance for me to threaten let alone challenge was going to be down to misfortune on his part. As he doesn't err too very often, my prospects for more promotion were dim. As things settled in, it became apparent that my main task was now to avoid mistakes, be consistent and fend off the advances of Sergio not far behind in his Cooper. I just knew that the Cooper was short on top end speed compared to my BRM and on the straights, I could pull a bit of a gap. A little Formula Three weaving here and there on my part was an attempt to break any tow I might be providing. No dice. Sergio was considerably faster in the corners and holding the gap to me most admirably. Damn! Things were largely stable as the laps ran down with Tago comfortably ahead and Sergio close astern. I then caught sight of another car in my mirrors not far behind Sergio. (BTW, I don't use Pribluda relying exclusively on my pit board to keep my informed of developments.) This was David now nicely recovered from his off in the Diabolica and now in a position to challenge Sergio. Surely, the Cooper would fall quickly to the speedy Lotus and my BRM wouldn't offer much in the way of a defence either. A legitimate shot at P5 was well within David's grasp. With just five laps to run, it all fell apart as a minor slip in Lesmo2 had him into the hedge with terminal damage. Really too, too bad, that.
Lastly, I must make mention I'm quite impressed with Quico's final lap cutting a sub-1m30s lap in the Cooper without benefit of a tow. Good show!
Off to Mexico next! WARNING!!! DON'T DRINK THE WATER!!!

Before the race, neither much nor little I train. A pretty decent setup (a little dancer) except for the race I decided to raise the pressure of the rear wheels one click. That's fine if you drive fine and do not overheat tires... It was not sensible.
I did not qualify badly, and neither the start was bad, although I lost a couple of positions before T1. As Doni says, at the end of lap 1, on the straight it overtook me like a plane but it was not a bad wheel to follow since he would throw something of myself on the straights. On lap 4 arriving at the Parabolica, I see in the mirrors that a Honda approaches me. It's Cayo who loses the car in braking and goes to the worst place on the fence, the one that gets stuck ... David is also there, but he gets back on track, although further back.
Everything was quiet until Lap 6, when Doni started a spin when entering the Parabolica and I had to brake at the curve. Doni managed to control the car, but the small advantage I had over Sergio was drastically reduced. The nerves came, and on the next lap I do a 360º in Lesmo1 and Sergio passes me. Things start not going well at all. In lap 8 I spun in the Parabolica and David passes me. I would go back to spinning in the same place on lap 10 and 14, and on the 19 again in Lesmo1. I tried to keep the spirit going fast, but it's hard when you fall so far behind. I need to train more if I want to have fun!
Congratulations to all of you who finished, all doing a very good race.

I'm glad that you mentioned my little 'moment' entering the Diabolica on Lap06, Quico. That was a pretty tense time and I only just saved it. The root cause for it was that someone...I would think either Trooper or birle or Cayo...left the server after their retirements and this caused a violent collapse of my frames. The stuttering had my on-screen image just about stop altogether. Lucky boy to have managed to just hang on by my fingertips.
Those who do not learn from history will be condemned to relive its mistakes.
