I was happy with qualifying, having done a PB with only a distant tow from Enrique. I was hopeful for the race.

But I made an awful start and had to fend off Tago over the opening laps and then find a way past Sergio.

But having just accomplished this, and with Paul and Gaizka still in sight, this happened:

the car has an engine problem.

Sergio ran out of brakes at the end of the straight and slammed into the back of me. These things happen. I should make better starts.

I didn't realise at the time but I had engine damage and it took me some time to catch and finally pass Tago and Enrique. I was a sitting duck on the straights but managed to pass them and have a gap, thanks to their collision. That meant that I could consolidate 3rd position, when my engine problem became much worse and I had to limp to the finish.

Congratulations to Paul and Gaizka you had great pace and congratulations also to Tago for his podium.


Estaba contento con la calificación, después de haber hecho un PB con solo un remolque distante de Enrique. Tenía esperanzas para la carrera.

Pero hice un comienzo horrible y tuve que defenderme de Tago en las primeras vueltas y luego encontrar la forma de adelantar a Sergio.

Pero recién cumplido esto, y con Paul y Gaizka aún a la vista, sucedió esto:

Sergio se quedó sin frenos al final de la recta y se estrelló contra mí por la espalda. Estas cosas pasan. Debería hacer mejores comienzos.

No me di cuenta en ese momento, pero tenía el motor dañado y me tomó un tiempo atrapar y finalmente pasar a Tago y Enrique. Yo era un blanco fácil en las rectas, pero logré pasarlos y tener una brecha, gracias a su colisión. Eso significó que pude consolidar la 3ª posición, cuando mi problema con el motor empeoró mucho y tuve que cojear hasta la meta.

Enhorabuena a Paul y Gaizka habéis tenido un gran ritmo y enhorabuena también a Tago por su podio.

¿Dónde estaba Doni?

Mi vuelta de calificación ha sido la mejor que he hecho hasta ahora en Boreham y he rodado por debajo de 1:40 por primera vez. Eso sólo me valía para ser 2º en la parrilla por detrás de Gaizka, pero hice una gran salida y pude colocarme primero en la primera vuelta.

A medida que avanzaba la carrera nos alejábamos del grupo perseguidor. Mi ritmo no era tan rápido, en torno a 1:41, pero Gaizka parecía contento de sentarse detrás de mí y jugar a la espera.

A falta de 10 vueltas ha lanzado sus primeros ataques. En algunas curvas nos hemos puesto codo con codo, pero he podido mantenerme en cabeza.
A 3 vueltas del final, Gaizka lo intentó de nuevo, pero estaba demasiado cerca de las balas de heno y sufrió un trompo. Perdió unos segundos y no tenía suficientes vueltas para recuperar el tiempo.

Where was Doni ?

My qualification lap was the best I had done so far at Boreham and under 1:40 for the first time. That was still only good enough for 2nd on the grid behind Gaizka, but I made a great start and was able to take P1 on the first lap.

As the race went on we pulled away from the chasing group. My pace was not that fast in the mid 1:41s but Gaizka seemed happy to sit behind me and play the waiting game.

With 10 laps to go he made his first attacks. We had some nice side by side racing through some of the turns but I was able to stay in front.
With 3 laps to go Gaizka tried again but was too close to the hay bales and had a half spin. He lost a few seconds and did not have enough laps to make up the time.

Una carrera muy bonita para mi porque tuve acción y batallas toda la carrera
A very nice race for me because I had action and battles all race long.

En clasificación conseguí mi 41 aunque alto muy pronto ... luego no conseguí bajarlo, así que salia detrás de Jorge y delante de Enrique
In qualifying I got my 41st, although high very early ... then I couldn't get it down, so I was behind Jorge and in front of Enrique.

Salí bien superando a Jorge aunque no tiene mérito alguno considerando las marchas del Gordini
I got a good start, overtaking Jorge, although this is of no merit considering the gears of the Gordini.

Desde el Jordini los Lancias mío y de Clive, Sergio con su Maserati luego el Vanwall de Gaiz y Paul con su Lancia
